Borussia Dortmund travel to the Weserstadion on Saturday for their final Bundesliga match of the season against Werder Bremen, with Niko Kovac’s side aiming to finish the campaign on a high despite missing out on the league title.
Dortmund have already secured second place in the Bundesliga standings with 70 points, but victory this weekend would deliver their highest points tally in seven years. The Black and Yellow enter the contest after an entertaining 3-2 win over Eintracht Frankfurt, a match in which they recovered brilliantly after conceding inside two minutes.
Although supporters remain disappointed that Bayern Munich who are looking forward to complete one of the most dominant Bundesliga campaigns in history when they host FC Koln, comfortably retained the title, there are still signs of progress under Kovac. Dortmund have improved significantly defensively compared to last season, conceding 17 fewer league goals than they did during the 2024-25 campaign. However, their away form remains a concern after back-to-back defeats on the road.
Borussia Dortmund through their X account shared a squad group photo on the Signal Iduna Park pitch captioned “Our family,” taken after their final 2025-26 Bundesliga home match against Eintracht Frankfurt on May 8, 2026.The image captures players and staff in yellow kits posing together amid waving supporter flags, highlighting team unity at season’s end.

Werder Bremen, meanwhile, are safe from relegation after Wolfsburg’s defeat to Bayern Munich confirmed their Bundesliga survival despite Bremen losing 1-0 to Hoffenheim last weekend. Daniel Thioune’s side sit 15th in the table and are simply looking to finish the season positively after a difficult run of form.
The Green-Whites have failed to defeat Dortmund in their last six meetings and were comfortably beaten 3-0 in January’s reverse fixture. Bremen have also struggled defensively in recent weeks, conceding 11 goals across their last six matches with Daniel Thioune is currently questioning the fitness of former Nigeria national football team star Victor Boniface.
With Dortmund chasing a strong finish and Bremen already safe from danger, Saturday’s clash could produce an open and entertaining final-day encounter at the Weserstadion.

Borussia Dortmund remain without Ramy Bensebaini and Emre Can due to injury. Teenager Luca Reggiani is expected to feature in defence alongside Waldemar Anton and Nico Schlotterbeck.
