Joan Laporta has confirmed that contract renewal talks with Hansi Flick will be delayed until the end of the 2025/26 season, despite the coach’s impressive impact at Barcelona.

According to Fabrizio Romano’s report via his official X channel, Laporta made it known that Flick “does not feel the need right now” to finalize a new deal, choosing instead to focus fully on the outcome of the ongoing campaign.

Romano posted:

Barça president Laporta on Hansi Flick new deal: We will calmly discuss it at the end of the season because he does not feel the need right now. Although he has earned a renewal, he prefers to analyze everything first before deciding, told Mon Esport.

Flick, who took charge in 2024, has overseen a significant transformation at Barcelona, delivering strong results and restoring competitive balance within the squad. Earlier reports by Softfootball suggested that an agreement was already in place for an extension until 2028, the current stance reflects a more measured approach from both coach and club.

Recently, Laporta responded to recent criticism from former manager Xavi Hernandez, insisting that Barcelona are progressing successfully under Flick’s leadership. The president emphasized unity within the club and confidence in the current project moving forward.

In other report by Romano, beyond managerial matters, Laporta reiterated Barcelona’s commitment to squad stability. He revealed that the club intends to avoid unnecessary signings, instead prioritizing continuity and the integration of La Masia talents.

Barça president Laporta: We don’t have to sign players just for the sake of it. We only need to sign what is truly necessary. The priority is to maintain and consolidate what we have rather than constantly making changes, told Mon Esport.

This approach reflects ongoing financial constraints and La Liga salary cap regulations, which have forced Barcelona to adopt a more sustainable strategy after years of heavy spending.

Laporta has also recently voiced frustration with football’s congested schedule following Raphinha’s hamstring injury while representing Brazil national football team against France national football team, further highlighting the challenges facing the club this season.

Fan reactions have been mixed, with some supporting the cautious, long-term vision while others view it as a necessity driven by financial realities. Nevertheless, Barcelona appear focused on stability, patience, and sustained growth under Flick.
