Softfootball can confirm that Barcelona are set to sign João Cancelo for the third time after the full-back agreed to terminate his contract with Al Hilal.

Cancelo, 32, will join Barcelona as a free agent after previously spending two loan spells at the club, first during the 2023/24 season and again last campaign.

The Portugal international is now set to become Barcelona’s fourth signing of the summer following the arrivals of Anthony Gordon, Karim Adeyemi and Jesse Bisiwu.

His return comes at an important moment for Barça, who are continuing to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.

Immediately after reaching an agreement for Cancelo, Barcelona also completed a major deal for Manchester City midfielder Rodri.

The Catalan club agreed to sign the former Ballon d’Or winner for €60 million fixed, plus €16 million in add-ons, with Rodri set to sign a contract until June 2030.

Rodri’s arrival and Cancelo’s return represent another major step in Barcelona’s summer recruitment as the club continue to build a squad capable of competing for major honours.
