Softfootball understands that Barcelona will not activate Sporting CP’s €80 million release clause for Colombian striker Luis Suárez, with the Catalan giants considering the asking price too high.
Sporting CP are unwilling to offer any discount for the Colombian, who joined the Portuguese club from Almería in July 2025. The striker remains under contract until 2030 and is considered an important asset within the club’s squad.
Barcelona’s decision reflects the financial caution surrounding their transfer strategy this summer. The Catalan giants are carefully managing their spending and are reluctant to commit €80 million to a player who is currently viewed as an alternative rather than their primary target.
Julián Álvarez remains Barcelona’s preferred option for the No. 9 position, with the club continuing to assess the possibility of bringing the Argentina international to Camp Nou.
For Sporting, the situation is straightforward. The club has no intention of lowering the striker’s valuation and will only consider his departure if his release clause is met or another proposal matches their expectations.
Barcelona therefore appear unlikely to pursue the deal at Sporting’s current price, with the club expected to continue exploring more financially viable options as the transfer window progresses.
