Wolverhampton Wanderers have officially been relegated from the Premier League, confirming their return to the Championship after eight years in the top flight, as confirmed by Fabrizio Romano on his X handle.
Romano posted:
Wolves have been relegated from the Premier League to the Championship.
Softfootball gathered Relegation was sealed following a heavy 3–0 defeat to Leeds United on Saturday, before West Ham United’s goalless draw against Crystal Palace on Monday 20th April 2026 delivered the decisive blow. The result meant Wolves could no longer mathematically escape the drop.

Rob Edwards’ side had briefly seen their survival hopes extended after Tottenham Hotspur were held to a 2–2 draw by Brighton & Hove Albion over the weekend.
However, West Ham only needed a single point to confirm Wolves’ fate — a target they achieved, bringing an end to the club’s long-standing stay in the Premier League.
Despite efforts to turn things around since Edwards’ appointment in November, relegation had felt increasingly inevitable as the season progressed, with results ultimately failing to improve at the required level.

Wolves will now prepare for life in the Championship, facing a crucial rebuilding phase as they aim to return to the Premier League at the earliest opportunity.
