Wolverhampton Wanderers will attempt to restore some pride in front of their home supporters when they welcome Fulham to Molineux on Sunday in a Premier League clash with contrasting ambitions for both clubs.

Wolves miserable campaign officially ended in relegation after a crushing 3-0 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend, confirming their return to the Championship after eight years in the top flight. Rob Edwards’s side are now winless in seven matches across all competitions, suffering five defeats during that run.

The Midlands have endured a difficult season from start to finish and remain rooted to the bottom of the table after recording 24 league defeats, the highest total in the club’s Premier League history. However, Wolves have shown slightly better form at Molineux, where all three of their league victories this season have been achieved.

Fulham, meanwhile, still have slim hopes of securing European qualification despite a recent dip in form. Marco Silva’s men have won just one of their last five Premier League matches and suffered another setback last weekend when Bournemouth claimed a narrow 1-0 victory at Craven Cottage.

They recently took to their official X handle to highlight Ryan Sessegnon’s strong record with four goals in his last five appearances against Wolves, using video clips of him scoring and celebrating in a past match. The video shows match action from a prior Fulham vs Wolves game, ending with Sessegnon pointing to his poppy badge during celebrations.

The Cottagers currently sit 11th in the standings, five points behind seventh-placed Brighton with only two games left to play. Fulham’s attacking struggles have become a concern after scoring only once across their previous five league outings.

There was positive news for the visitors this week, though, as Alex Iwobi returned to training after recovering from a hamstring issue. Silva described the Nigerian midfielder as a key player whose versatility and quality could provide an important boost ahead of the trip to Molineux.

With Wolves already relegated and Fulham still chasing a possible top-seven finish, Sunday’s contest carries importance for both sides as the season nears its conclusion.

Team News

Wolves remain uncertain over goalkeeper Jose Sa’s fitness, meaning Daniel Bentley could continue between the posts. Sam Johnstone is also unavailable with a shoulder injury.

Alex Iwobi could be available for Fulham’s trip to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday, after missing three games with a hamstring injury. Manager Marco Silva confirmed that Iwobi had some training sessions with them last week.

Both teams have struggled badly for consistency, but Fulham’s greater motivation and attacking quality could prove decisive. Wolves may compete strongly at home, though the visitors are slight favourites.
