Real Madrid and Brazil winger Vinicius Junior has been crowned FIFA’s Best Men’s Player of the Year, offering some consolation after missing out on the Ballon d’Or to Manchester City’s Rodri back in October.
The Brazilian claimed the prestigious individual honour at the ceremony held in Qatar on Tuesday, capping off a standout campaign both domestically and in Europe.
Softfootball reports that Barcelona’s Aitana Bonmati was named the Best Women’s Player for the second time, while Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho picked up the Puskas Award for his spectacular overhead kick against Everton.
Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti was also honoured, claiming Coach of the Year after guiding his side to Champions League and LaLiga glory last season.
Elsewhere, Aston Villa and Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez won the Best Men’s Goalkeeper award for the second time in three years, while former Chelsea manager Emma Hayes claimed Women’s Coach of the Year following her Olympic gold success with the United States.
