Valencia manager Carlos Corberan believes Umar Sadiq’s first goal for the club will give the Nigerian striker the confidence he needs to make a bigger impact this season. The forward found the net in Valencia’s 2-0 Copa del Rey victory over Ourense, marking an encouraging start after joining the club on loan from Real Sociedad earlier this month.
Valencia took the lead early in the second half through an own goal by Fran Carmona before Sadiq sealed the win with his first strike in club colours. The goal was a welcome moment for the 27-year-old, who has been looking to rediscover his best form after a difficult spell.
Speaking after the match, Corberan said:
Sadiq has shown that he lives close to the goal. He has achieved an individual move that has given him an important goal, and I am sure that it will give him confidence, which is important to continue helping him in that aspect.
The Valencia boss believes the goal could be an important turning point for the Nigerian. According to Softfootball, the club hopes Sadiq can build on the performance and become a key player during the second half of the season.
