Former Super Eagles captain William Troost‑Ekong has thrown his full support behind goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, expressing confidence that the shot‑stopper will secure a new club before the end of the summer transfer window.

Softfootball had reported that Nwabali officially left Chippa United on February 5, 2026, following a mutual agreement with the club. His lack of club football has since cost him his starting spot in the Super Eagles squad.
Speaking to SuperSport, Troost‑Ekong admitted it has been difficult watching Nwabali remain unattached, especially after his impressive rise with Nigeria. He explained that the goalkeeper’s club situation was one of the key reasons he was left out of the latest Super Eagles squad.
Despite the setback, Troost‑Ekong remains optimistic. He stressed that Nwabali possesses the talent, professionalism, and experience required to succeed at a high level once his future is resolved.
The former captain believes that once Nwabali secures a new team, he will regain full momentum, return to top form, and re‑establish himself ahead of Nigeria’s upcoming international fixtures.
