Nigerian football has three shots at glory in this year’s CAF Coach of the Year race. Chris Danjuma, Bankole Olowookere, and Moses Aduku have all been nominated, each arriving on the shortlist through very different campaigns.
Softfootball can confirm Danjuma earned his spot by guiding the Falconets to the Round of 16 at the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, a run ended only by Japan.
Olowookere led the Flamingos to a quarter-final exit against the United States at the U-17 edition of the tournament, while Aduku’s case rests on domestic success; winning the Nigeria Women’s Football League with Edo Queens and topping the WAFU B Women’s Championship table in Abidjan.
The award will be decided by votes from a broad panel spanning CAF’s Technical Committee, media professionals, and national team head coaches and captains, alongside representatives from clubs in CAF’s interclub competitions.
Voting covers the January – October 2024 window, with results revealed at the ceremony in Marrakech on December 16.
Three nominees from one federation is no small feat, and it says plenty about the depth of coaching talent currently coming out of Nigerian football.
