Softfootball understands that Ipswich Town have submitted an official bid for Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Exequiel Palacios as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.
The 27-year-old Argentine is expected to leave Leverkusen this summer after more than six years with the Bundesliga club, with several teams from England and Germany monitoring his situation.
Palacios joined Leverkusen from River Plate in 2020 and has since established himself as an important midfielder at both club and international level. The midfielder has also earned 41 caps for Argentina and was part of the national team squads at both the 2022 and 2026 FIFA World Cups.
Ipswich are now attempting to win the race for his signature by putting forward an official proposal, although they face significant competition. Other Premier League clubs are understood to be interested, while RB Leipzig have previously emerged as one of the strongest alternatives.
Leverkusen are expected to demand a substantial fee for the Argentine, who remains under contract with the club until 2030.
With Ipswich now making their interest concrete through an official bid, negotiations are expected to accelerate as competing clubs decide whether to enter the race for the experienced midfielder.
