Reports shared by journalist Ben Jacobs on X about Liam Delap and Chelsea. According to the reports, Newcastle United FC are interested in signing Delap, but the striker reportedly wants to remain at Chelsea and fight for his place in the squad.

However, Softfootball believes there is a difference between a player wanting to stay and a club believing the player is part of the long-term project.

At the moment, with João Pedro performing very well, Chelsea’s focus should be on either finding another striker at João Pedro’s level or signing someone even better.

Softfootball believes it will be very difficult for Delap to become better than João Pedro at Chelsea, especially if João Pedro continues his current form. In most situations, João Pedro would likely remain ahead of Delap in the starting lineup.

Because of this, if Newcastle come forward with an offer around £25 million to £30 million, fans believes Chelsea should seriously consider selling him.

The platform also believes Nicolas Jackson should remain part of the squad as a backup option because, even when he is not scoring goals, he still contributes with hold-up play and movement.

For the 2026/27 season, Softfootball believes Chelsea’s target should be signing a striker capable of competing at the highest level if the club truly wants to challenge for major trophies again.
