Abia Warriors goalkeeper trainer Ike Shorunmu has admitted he was left stunned by his side’s 3-0 defeat to Nasarawa United in Wednesday’s Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday Seven encounter at the Lafia Township Stadium.
The Umuahia-based club impressed during the opening 45 minutes and looked the better side before conceding three unanswered goals after the break. Softfootball gathered that Shorunmu believes the final scoreline did not reflect his team’s dominance in the first half.

Speaking after the match, the former Shooting Stars goalkeeper said it was difficult to understand how Abia Warriors ended up on the losing side after controlling proceedings before the interval.
According to Shorunmu, his side dictated play throughout the opening half to such an extent that the Nasarawa State Governor, who was watching the game from the stands, reportedly left the stadium at halftime, seemingly concerned that the visitors were on course for victory.
However, the game took a dramatic turn after the restart as Nasarawa United found the breakthrough before adding two more goals to seal a convincing win.
Despite the disappointing result, Shorunmu described football as unpredictable and insisted such outcomes are part of the game.
The former Super Eagles goalkeeper also revealed that Abia Warriors have already shifted their focus to Sunday’s crucial home fixture against Plateau United before subsequent matches against Bendel Insurance and Heartland.
He acknowledged that a demanding run of fixtures lies ahead but expressed confidence that the team is ready to respond positively.
Abia Warriors are determined to bounce back quickly as they look to recover from the setback and maintain their push in the NPFL standings.
