Softfootball has gathered that former Monaco manager Sebastien Pocognoli has agreed to become Scotland’s new head coach, replacing Steve Clarke following the country’s disappointing group-stage exit at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The 39-year-old Belgian is set to take charge of the national team as the Scottish Football Association looks for a fresh direction ahead of upcoming Nations League fixtures and qualification for the 2028 European Championship.
Steve Clarke stepped down after Scotland failed to progress beyond the group stage at the 2026 World Cup, bringing an end to his tenure after several years in charge.
Pocognoli will now face the challenge of revitalising the national team and maintaining Scotland’s recent progress on the international stage.
His first major objectives will include preparing the squad for the Nations League while laying the foundations for a successful Euro 2028 qualification campaign.
With the agreement reportedly in place, the SFA is expected to formalise Pocognoli’s appointment shortly as Scotland begin a new era under the young Belgian coach.
