Real Madrid ended their pre-season campaign in style with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Schalke at the VELTINS-Arena, with Kylian Mbappé, Dean Huijsen and Carlos Espí all finding the net, Marc Cucurella and Yan Diomande made their Real Madrid debuts, Softfootball reports.
Mbappé opened the scoring after just six minutes, capitalising on a misplaced pass from Ron Schallenberg before calmly finishing beyond Loris Karius. The French forward, returning to action, provided an early reminder of his attacking threat and was later booked.
Real Madrid doubled their advantage in the 20th minute when Dean Huijsen rose highest from an Arda Güler corner delivery to head home. The Spanish side controlled much of the game despite Schalke enjoying periods of possession and creating opportunities of their own.
Real Madrid eventually put the result beyond doubt in the 57th minute. Álvaro Carreras delivered an inviting cross into the area, and Carlos Espí headed home to score his second goal of pre-season.
The victory means Real Madrid finish their preparations unbeaten ahead of their La Liga opener against Espanyol on August 22. Schalke, meanwhile, turn their attention to their German Cup clash with Hallescher before beginning their league campaign away to Augsburg.
