Stuart Pearce doesn’t think West Ham should be anywhere near panic mode over Julen Lopetegui, despite a rocky start to the Spaniard’s tenure at the London Stadium.
The former England Under-21 boss addressed growing fan frustration in an interview, urging the club’s hierarchy to see out the season before making any drastic call.
Softfootball learnt that Pearce framed the situation as a club still adjusting to wholesale change behind the scenes, not just in the dugout, saying:
You’ve got to understand that they made a big call in the summer to not renegotiate with David Moyes.
They made that judgment call, they identified Lopetegui to come in and replace him. And after 11 games, it’s too soon.
There has been massive changes at West Ham, not just the coaching staff, but behind the scenes, all manner of things have changed. I think you’ve got to sit tight at least until the end of the season.
Pearce also pointed to a summer transfer window that brought plenty of new faces, several of whom haven’t yet delivered on their promise, as part of the adjustment period.
