CAF unveiled the nominees on Thursday as anticipation builds ahead of the annual awards ceremony.

Nwabali’s nomination comes on the back of his impressive performances for Nigeria at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where he established himself as the Super Eagles’ first-choice goalkeeper.

The 28-year-old played a key role in Nigeria’s run to the final of the tournament, producing a string of outstanding displays, including crucial penalty saves and several match-winning interventions.

His performances at the AFCON also earned him widespread recognition across the continent and further boosted his reputation in the South African top flight, where he continues to shine for Chippa United.

Softfootball gathered that Nwabali will compete against nine other top goalkeepers from across Africa for the coveted award.

The winners of the 2024 CAF Awards will be announced at a glamorous ceremony scheduled to take place in Marrakech, Morocco, on Monday, December 16.

Nwabali’s nomination adds to Nigeria’s growing presence on the CAF Awards shortlist, with several Super Eagles stars also receiving nominations across different categories.
