After missing out on qualification for the 2026 World Cup, Nigeria now have a golden opportunity to make amends at AFCON 2025 in Morocco. Softfootball reported that the Super Eagles have looked sharp and determined so far, winning all three group matches, scoring eight goals and conceding four.
Eric Chelle’s side sent a clear warning to the rest of the competition with their attacking display in the group stage, with Raphael Onyedika delivering a standout performance as Nigeria defeated Uganda 3–1. That victory highlighted Nigeria’s squad depth, as several key players were rested but the team still delivered. Their dominance was further underlined as the group phase ended with Nigeria and Algeria qualifying with the maximum nine points.
Team news
With the regular starters expected to return on Monday, Mozambique will be facing one of the most dangerous forward lines in the tournament.

Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman and Akor Adams are all set to feature, giving Nigeria pace, power and creativity in attack. Nigeria have also won four of their last five meetings with Mozambique, another factor working in their favour.
Mozambique, however, will be making history with their first-ever knockout appearance at AFCON. Their group-stage campaign was modest, but the Mambas will see this tie as a chance to claim a famous scalp, even if the odds are stacked against them.
Nigeria have already posted clips of their preparations on their X handle, showing focus and confidence ahead of the clash.
