NFF Confirm Eric Chelle As New Super Eagles Head Coach

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have officially appointed Eric Sékou Chelle as the new head coach of the Super Eagles with immediate effect.

Softfootball gathered that the NFF Executive Committee approved the recommendation of its Technical and Development Sub-Committee following a meeting in Abuja.

Chelle previously managed the Mali football national team, guiding them to the quarter-finals of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations before suffering an extra-time defeat to eventual champions Côte d’Ivoire.

Introducing the federation’s announcement, the NFF confirmed the 47-year-old has been tasked with leading Nigeria’s campaign to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The former Mali international also enjoyed a coaching career with clubs including GS Consolat, FC Martigues, Boulogne and MC Oran after retiring from professional football.

His extensive playing career was spent entirely in France, representing clubs like Valenciennes and Lens before transitioning into management in 2021

His first major assignment will be Nigeria’s World Cup qualifying fixtures scheduled for March.
