Newcastle United have been dealt another injury setback after defender Sven Botman was ruled out of the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool.

Softfootball understands that the Dutch centre-back will miss the Wembley showdown, adding to Eddie Howe’s growing list of unavailable players ahead of one of the club’s biggest matches of the season.

Botman’s absence leaves Newcastle short of defensive options as they prepare to face a Liverpool side chasing another domestic trophy.

The defender has been a key figure whenever fit, and his unavailability is expected to force Howe into another defensive reshuffle for the final.

Despite the setback, Newcastle remain determined to compete strongly and end their long wait for major silverware. The Magpies will now rely on the depth of their squad as they attempt to overcome the Premier League leaders.

Howe is expected to provide further updates on the fitness of other injured players before the final at Wembley Stadium.
