Former Crystal Palace forward Clinton Morrison has advised Taiwo Awoniyi to improve his movement and understanding of the game as he continues his battle for a starting role at Nottingham Forest.
The Super Eagles striker has found opportunities limited this season, with Chris Wood firmly established as Forest’s first-choice centre-forward. Injuries have also disrupted Awoniyi’s campaign, making it difficult for him to build consistency.
Softfootball understands Morrison believes the Nigerian still has plenty to offer once he regains full sharpness.
Speaking after Forest’s FA Cup victory over Ipswich Town, Morrison compared Awoniyi’s game to that of Wood, highlighting one area where the New Zealand international has the edge. Morrison said:
Taiwo Awoniyi doesn’t read the game like Chris Wood does.
The former Premier League striker also suggested that Awoniyi’s recent injury setbacks have affected his overall performance. He added:
You can see he’s a striker coming back to full fitness.
Awoniyi will be hoping to rediscover his best form in the coming weeks as Nottingham Forest continue their push in both the Premier League and the FA Cup.
