Former Super Eagles captain Mikel Obi believes Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez is beginning to lead by example at Stamford Bridge, following his impressive performance in Sunday’s dramatic 4-3 win over Tottenham.
Fernandez netted a crucial goal during the comeback victory, continuing a resurgence in form after a difficult start to the season.
Softfootball can confirm that Mikel discussed the midfielder’s turnaround while speaking with Chelsea News.
He said:
Sometimes you need that kick up your backside to get you to wake up.
His performances weren’t good at the start of the season and everyone was complaining.
Mikel explained that being temporarily left out of the side appears to have benefited Fernandez in the long run. He added:
I think the manager took him out of the firing line to protect him a little bit.
Now, he’s brought him back into the team.
He’s been absolutely fantastic since coming back into the team, and he is the captain right now.
