Calum McFarlane has expressed satisfaction with Chelsea’s performance following their 1–1 draw against Liverpool at Anfield, while admitting disappointment that the team failed to secure all three points.
As gathered by Softfootball, speaking in his post-match interview shared on Chelsea’s YouTube channel, McFarlane explained that he was pleased with the overall display and particularly encouraged by the team’s reaction after conceding an early goal. The interim manager reflected deeply on the situation before delivering these remarks:
Yeah, I feel we might have been worth all three if I am honest. Another really marginal offside like we had last week. A penalty claim for me is a penalty. I am not trying to make excuses because they did have momemts as well. It was probably an evenly matchd game but pleased with the point, pleased with the performance, disappointed we didn’t get all three points.

The interim manager revealed that improving the squad’s mentality and response had been a major focus following recent disappointing performances, including the defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion F.C. and the 3–1 home loss against Nottingham Forest at Stamford Bridge.
According to McFarlane, Chelsea failed to respond properly in those matches, making it important for the group to show growth and character at Anfield. He praised the players for reacting positively, improving their level, and delivering a stronger overall performance.

McFarlane also highlighted Chelsea’s first-half display, noting that the team played with greater control and intensity compared to recent outings. While frustrated by the early goal conceded, he believes the response afterward reflected some of the “best versions” of the squad this season:
We didn’t react well enough at Brighton, We didn’t react well enough at Forest, in those moments when we went a goal down. This group has shown that they can react and respond and improve their level of performance. I thought we went down early and thought we played and were much better team in the first half at least. So, pleased with the reaction.
The Chelsea boss stressed that difficult conversations took place within the squad after the Forest defeat, with several areas identified for improvement. He believes the recent display showed clear progress and provides momentum heading into an important period.
