Inter Miami coach Javier Mascherano believes Franco Mastantuono has the qualities required to succeed after completing his move to Real Madrid.
Softfootball reports that the 17-year-old Argentine agreed to join the Spanish giants from River Plate, although he is expected to remain with his boyhood club until after the Club World Cup. Mascherano knows Mastantuono well, having coached him with Argentina’s Under-20 side.
Speaking about the transfer, Mascherano said the move represented a major step for the young midfielder. He said:
He is taking a big step. He is in one of the best teams you can be in the world, like River, but when clubs like Real Madrid or Barcelona come looking for you, it is difficult to say no.
Mascherano also described Mastantuono as an incredible player and praised his mentality. He stressed, however, that the youngster must maintain his level and prove himself over time.
Real Madrid’s decision to invest in the Argentine teenager reflects their continued strategy of securing elite young talent before their market value rises further.
Mastantuono’s immediate focus remains River Plate and the Club World Cup. After the tournament, attention will shift to his transition into Madrid life and his first steps under the again.
