Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has urged his players to become more ruthless after their frustrating 2-2 Premier League draw against Bournemouth. The Blues surrendered the lead during the contest, leaving the Italian coach convinced his side must improve their ability to put games beyond opponents when they are on top.
Chelsea created several clear opportunities but failed to convert enough of them, allowing Bournemouth to fight back before Reece James rescued a point late in the game.
Softfootball understands Maresca remains confident his team will improve with experience, insisting their attacking play has been encouraging despite recent disappointing results.
Reflecting on the performance, Maresca said:
Sometimes you create one chance and you score one goal, and sometimes you need to create ten chances to score one goal.
He added:
The way we were playing, there was only one team on the pitch in the first half and that was Chelsea… we need to understand the reason why and try to improve.
The Chelsea boss believes his players will learn from these setbacks as they continue developing under his leadership during the remainder of the season.
