Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has suggested the club may need to dip into the January transfer market, following a fourth consecutive match without a win against Crystal Palace.
Chelsea were held to a 1-1 draw at Selhurst Park, with Jean-Philippe Mateta cancelling out Cole Palmer’s early opener during a difficult run of results.
Softfootball gathers that Maresca is currently facing a defensive crisis, with Wesley Fofana potentially ruled out for the season and Benoit Badiashile also sidelined with a hamstring injury. He said:
Even if we don’t decide to buy players or sell players because Josh has shown he is good, we already knew Josh was good enough. Probably with Wes and Benoit injuries, we will see if something is going to happen.
Maresca was full of praise for teenager Josh Acheampong, who impressed on his first start alongside Levi Colwill. He added:
I think for sure, Josh was our best player because of his age, it was his first game. Josh, for me, can be a top player for this club but he needs the right path.
