Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca admitted his side should have beaten Bournemouth after Tuesday’s 2-2 Premier League draw at Stamford Bridge. The Blues led through Cole Palmer before goals from Justin Kluivert and Antoine Semenyo turned the game around, forcing Reece James to rescue a point with a stoppage-time free-kick.
The result extended Chelsea’s winless run in the league to five matches, leaving Maresca disappointed with his team’s inability to convert several clear chances.
According to Softfootball, the Italian also questioned a controversial refereeing decision involving Bournemouth’s David Brooks, who escaped with only a yellow card after a VAR review.
Speaking after the match, Maresca said:
We had a few clear-cut chances we should have taken in the first half and put the game to bed. That can come back to bite you.
On the Brooks incident, he added:
In my opinion, it’s a red. Hopefully we can be more lucky with the referee in the future.
Despite the frustrating result, Maresca believes Chelsea can take positives from their late comeback and will now shift their attention to improving results in the coming weeks.
