Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has dismissed speculation linking Renato Veiga with a move away from Stamford Bridge, insisting the versatile defender remains an important part of his plans.
The Portugal international has recently been linked with Borussia Dortmund following an impressive start to life at Chelsea after joining from Swiss side Basel.
Veiga has earned praise for his ability to perform in different positions, helping him establish himself in the first team.
Softfootball reports Maresca believes the growing transfer interest is a reflection of the defender’s strong performances rather than an indication Chelsea are prepared to sell him.
Addressing the rumours, Maresca said:
We’ll see if something happens. I’m not aware there is an agreement for him. We bought Renato from Basel. He arrived and played well in different positions and allowed him to join the national team for the first time in his life.
The Chelsea boss also added:
Playing in the position he is playing with us gives him the chance to get speculation around him. Clubs look for players that are doing well, not bad.
Veiga remains fully focused on Chelsea’s season.
