Softfootball understands that Manchester United will resume negotiations with Brighton today over the signing of Cameroon midfielder Carlos Baleba, with increased confidence around a potential agreement.

The Red Devils have stepped up their pursuit of the 22-year-old after making significant progress in discussions, and there is now growing belief that the transfer could eventually be completed.

Baleba joined Brighton from Lille in 2023 for around €27 million and has since developed into an important member of their midfield. Manchester United are now understood to be discussing a package worth around £60 million plus add-ons as they attempt to reach an agreement with Brighton.

If completed, Baleba would become United’s third midfield signing of the summer following the arrivals of Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos.

The move would also address an important need in Ruben Amorim’s squad following Casemiro’s departure and ongoing injury concerns affecting the midfield.

Negotiations are expected to continue today, with United increasingly confident that their latest efforts can lead to a breakthrough. Brighton, meanwhile, remain in a strong negotiating position as they consider the future of one of their most valuable young players.
