Jürgen Klopp has reacted to the Manchester City verdict, saying he will wait for the next steps before drawing any conclusions over potential sanctions.
The former Liverpool manager, who spent several years competing directly with Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City for major honours, acknowledged the quality of Guardiola’s team while distancing himself from any consequences that may follow the verdict.
I can only wait and see. I have big respect for Guardiola and City’s style of football; they played fantastic and were a top-class opponent for us,
Klopp said.
The German coach added that any sanctions handed to Manchester City would have nothing to do with him, insisting that he would simply wait for the process to unfold.
If any sanctions are handed out, I have nothing to do with it; I’ll wait and see,
he added.
Klopp’s comments come as Manchester City’s long-running Premier League case continues to generate debate over the consequences of the verdict. City have previously denied wrongdoing, while the club’s possible sanctions remain a major issue following the ruling.
Meanwhile, Klopp’s own career has entered a new chapter after replacing Julian Nagelsmann as Germany head coach. The DFB confirmed in July that Klopp signed a four-year contract to lead the national team through Euro 2028 and the 2030 World Cup.
Klopp therefore finds himself preparing Germany for a long-term rebuild while also watching developments involving one of his most prominent former rivals in English football as Pep Guardiola’s future at Manchester City remains uncertain, potentially reshaping the competitive landscape of European international and club football.
