Manchester City are reportedly considering a summer approach for Arsenal centre-back William Saliba as Pep Guardiola looks to strengthen his defensive options.

Softfootball understands that City have joined the list of clubs linked with the France international, who has established himself as one of Arsenal’s most important players since breaking into the first team.

Saliba’s development has been remarkable, with the defender already making more than 120 appearances for the Gunners despite being just 24 years old at the time of the report.

His composure, physical strength and ability to build attacks from the back have made him a highly valued member of Mikel Arteta’s squad.

Reports suggested Guardiola wanted significant changes to his Manchester City squad following a disappointing campaign, with defensive reinforcements among the areas being considered.

However, Arsenal were unlikely to welcome any approach for Saliba, who remained central to Arteta’s plans and the club’s long-term ambitions.

The defender had also attracted attention from Real Madrid, meaning any potential transfer would likely involve significant negotiations if Arsenal were ever prepared to consider selling one of their key defensive players.
