Manchester United will be without Lisandro Martínez and Kobbie Mainoo for Wednesday’s Premier League showdown against Arsenal after both players picked up suspensions.
Softfootball understands that the duo received yellow cards during United’s convincing victory over Everton, ruling them out of Ruben Amorim’s biggest test since taking charge at Old Trafford.
Mainoo was booked in the 49th minute after bringing down Dwight McNeil just outside the penalty area, while Martínez was cautioned moments later for hauling back Everton striker Beto as the forward looked set to break through on goal.
The bookings proved costly despite helping United maintain control of the match, with both players now serving a one-match suspension.
Mainoo had only just returned to the starting lineup under Amorim after being an unused substitute against Ipswich Town and remaining on the bench before featuring against Bodø/Glimt.
Martínez, meanwhile, returned to the starting XI against Bodø/Glimt after missing the Ipswich game and also featured against Everton before being withdrawn in the second half.
Their absence leaves Amorim with selection headaches ahead of a difficult trip to the Emirates Stadium, where United will look to continue their positive run under the Portuguese coach.
However, the former Sporting CP manager has previously insisted he is prepared to rotate his squad regularly as the players continue adapting to his tactical system.
With Arsenal in strong form and United missing two influential players, Amorim will need to reshuffle his lineup once again as he searches for a positive result in one of the toughest fixtures of the Premier League season.
