Manchester United have suffered an off-field embarrassment after Old Trafford’s hygiene rating was downgraded to just two stars following the discovery of a mice infestation at the stadium.
According to reports from the Daily Mail, environmental health inspectors found mice droppings in ground-level corporate hospitality suites and a food kiosk during a recent inspection.
Softfootball understands the findings prompted authorities to instruct the club to make urgent improvements to meet the required hygiene standards.
Despite the setback, Manchester United insisted extensive measures are already in place to maintain cleanliness across the stadium’s catering facilities.
A club spokesperson said:
Multiple weekly checks are made in all catering areas and stringent measures are taken to ensure levels of hygiene and cleanliness are high wherever food is stored, prepared and served.
The latest issue adds to a difficult period for the club away from the pitch. Reports of a dead rat being discovered beneath a fan’s seat surfaced only weeks earlier, while a leaking roof also disrupted Ruben Amorim’s post-match press conference following the defeat to Bournemouth.
