Manchester City are reportedly preparing a bid worth close to £41.3million for AC Milan midfielder Tijjani Reijnders, whose first name was inspired by Nigerian football legend Tijani Babangida.
Reijnders’ parents named their son after Babangida following his exploits at Ajax Amsterdam, and the Dutch international has since gone on to justify the footballing pedigree attached to his name.
Softfootball can confirm the 27-year-old has been in fine form this season, contributing three goals and two assists in 14 Serie A appearances.
According to reports, Pep Guardiola is keen to add Reijnders to his midfield, praising the qualities he believes would strengthen City’s squad.
City are reportedly preparing an offer close to €50million in an attempt to prise him away from the San Siro, though Milan are working to secure his long-term future with a new contract.
The pursuit comes amid a torrid run of form for City, who have won just once in their last 12 matches following their derby defeat to Manchester United, leaving them nine points adrift of leaders Liverpool.
