Malo Gusto has publicly backed Liam Rosenior, insisting the Chelsea FC boss deserves more respect despite the club’s recent struggles.
Rosenior was appointed in January 2026 following the departure of Enzo Maresca, who left Stamford Bridge despite delivering both the FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Conference League titles in his debut season.
However, Softfootball gathered that Chelsea’s form has dipped significantly since the managerial change. A heavy 3-0 defeat to Everton FC before the international break extended their poor run, following an 8-2 aggregate loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League and a 1-0 home defeat to Newcastle United.

In comments confirmed by Fabrizio Romano via his x handle, Gusto described Rosenior as a “top coach” and admitted he does not understand the level of criticism directed at him.
Romano posted:
Malo Gusto: “Liam Rosenior is a top coach. I don’t get why people criticise him”. “He is a lot of things for the future, but if he is the Chelsea manager it is because he has the talent for this”. “We believe in him”, told ESPN.
The defender emphasized that the squad fully believes in the manager and his long-term vision for the club.
Gusto also revealed that players were surprised by Maresca’s exit, suggesting the transition has contributed to the team’s inconsistency as they attempt to regain momentum.
