Manchester United have been dealt another injury setback after midfielder Kobbie Mainoo was ruled out for a few weeks with a muscle injury.

Softfootball understands that the 19-year-old sustained the injury during United’s goalless Premier League draw against Aston Villa before withdrawing from England’s squad for their UEFA Nations League fixtures.

Mainoo is not the only player sidelined, with defender Harry Maguire also expected to spend a similar period out after picking up an injury in the same match.

There was, however, some positive news for manager Erik ten Hag as defender Noussair Mazraoui returned to training after undergoing a minor medical procedure to correct heart palpitations.

Summer signing Manuel Ugarte is also being monitored after limping off during Uruguay’s World Cup qualifier against Ecuador, while Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo have resumed training and are expected to be available for Saturday’s clash with Brentford.

Meanwhile, Mason Mount and Luke Shaw remain sidelined, while Tyrell Malacia continues his recovery from a long-term knee injury.
