Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has expressed optimism that manager Ruben Amorim can transform the club’s fortunes following their dramatic derby win over Manchester City.

United secured a 2-1 victory at the Etihad Stadium, a result Maguire believes reflects genuine progress under the new manager despite the team’s recent struggles.

Softfootball notes that the defender spoke about the significance of the win after the final whistle. Reflecting on the performance, Maguire said:

We had chances, we pushed in the end and got the reward I felt like we deserved.

It was a great performance to go there, have 50-50 of the ball and have the same amount of shots as them.

The England international also believes the victory can serve as a stepping stone for the squad, adding:

It’s not been like that in recent years, so it’s an improvement, but there’s still a long way to go. I’m sure it’s going to be a positive journey.

United will now look to build on the momentum from the derby triumph as Amorim continues to implement his ideas, with the players hopeful the result marks the beginning of an upturn in their season.
