Former Nigerian international Patrick Pascal has backed Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman to win the 2024 CAF African Player of the Year award, insisting the Atalanta star has done enough to claim the prestigious honour.
Softfootball understands that Pascal believes Lookman’s outstanding performances for both club and country make him the strongest candidate for the award.
The former defender pointed to Lookman’s remarkable year, which included becoming the only African player nominated for the 2024 Ballon d’Or, where he finished among the world’s top-ranked footballers.
Lookman has also maintained his impressive form for Atalanta this season, continuing to deliver goals and influential performances in Serie A.
Pascal warned that CAF would face widespread criticism if the Nigerian international is overlooked when the winner is announced.
According to him, Lookman’s achievements leave little room for debate, and failing to recognise his performances would be difficult to justify.
The winner of the 2024 CAF African Player of the Year award will be announced on December 16 during the Confederation of African Football’s awards ceremony in Marrakesh, Morocco.
