Ademola Lookman spent the entire ninety minutes on the bench during Atalanta’s massive six to one victory over Young Boys in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night.
The Nigerian international was expected to start the clash at the Stadion Wankdorf in Bern, but manager Gian Piero Gasperini decided to rest him for this specific fixture.
Softfootball learned that Atalanta dominated the game with Matteo Retegui and Charles De Ketelaere both scoring a brace, while Saed Kolasinac and Lazar Samardzic also found the net for the visitors. Silvere Ganvoula managed a consolation goal for the home side.
Meanwhile, Nathan Tella saw some action in another Champions League match at the Bay Arena. He came off the bench to replace Jeremie Frimpong in the sixty eighth minute during Bayer Leverkusen’s commanding five to zero rout of Austrian champions Salzburg.
Tella’s brief appearance helped his team secure a comfortable win in the league phase.
Both Nigerian players will now look forward to their next European assignments as their respective clubs continue their campaigns in the prestigious tournament this season and beyond. They both hope to feature more prominently in upcoming games.
