Rain, snow, and ice have caused significant disruption across Liverpool and the North West in recent days, prompting the club to hold a safety meeting ahead of kickoff.
Softfootball understands Liverpool addressed the situation directly in a statement issued via talkSPORT on Sunday morning. The club said:
A safety meeting was held this morning to assess the weather and travel conditions for today’s fixture against Manchester United at Anfield.
At this stage the match is planned to go ahead as normal and every effort is being made to get the game on.
Liverpool City Council also confirmed gritting efforts were underway across the city, adding:
Our gritters are now out on their 3rd run since yesterday afternoon.
Liverpool remain keen to avoid further fixture congestion, having already seen their derby with Everton postponed last month due to similarly poor conditions.
