Liverpool FC have officially confirmed the appointment of Andoni Iraola as the club’s new head coach via a statement on their official x handle following the departure of Arne Slot.
Liverpool’s statement:
We can confirm Andoni Iraola has agreed a deal to become the club’s new head coach ahead of the 2026-27 season 🤝
Softfootball can confirm The 43-year-old has signed a two-year contract and arrives at Anfield after a highly successful three-year spell with AFC Bournemouth, where he guided the Cherries to European qualification for the first time in their history.

Iraola quickly became Liverpool’s preferred candidate after Slot’s dismissal, with sporting director Richard Hughes playing a key role in the appointment, having previously brought the Spaniard to Bournemouth.
The new Liverpool boss is expected to be joined by several trusted members of his coaching staff, including Tommy Elphick, Shaun Cooper, Pablo de la Torre and Tom Webber.
Known for his aggressive pressing, intensity and attacking approach, Iraola’s football philosophy has drawn comparisons to that of former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp, a style many supporters believe suits the club’s identity.

Before moving to England in 2023, Iraola earned widespread praise during his time at Rayo Vallecano and also enjoyed a distinguished playing career with Athletic Bilbao.
Liverpool will now look to begin a new era under Iraola as preparations for the 2026/27 season get underway.
