Wilfred Ndidi played a key role as Leicester City secured an impressive 3-1 victory over West Ham United in Tuesday night’s Premier League clash, handing new manager Ruud van Nistelrooy a dream start, softfootball reports.
The Nigerian midfielder, making his 16th league appearance of the season, once again delivered a disciplined display in the heart of midfield as the Foxes produced one of their best performances of the campaign.
Leicester made a flying start, with veteran striker Jamie Vardy breaking the deadlock just 98 seconds into the game to ignite the home crowd.
After the restart, Bilal El Khannouss doubled the advantage before Patson Daka added a third to put the result beyond doubt.
Ndidi also came close to getting his name on the scoresheet, forcing West Ham goalkeeper Łukasz Fabiański into a superb acrobatic save with a powerful header. Moments later, Leicester’s defence produced a heroic goal-line intervention to preserve their two-goal cushion before extending their lead.
West Ham managed to pull one back late in the contest through Niclas Füllkrug, but it proved to be nothing more than a consolation as Leicester comfortably held on for all three points.
The victory marks a perfect beginning for Van Nistelrooy in his first match in charge of the Foxes and provides a timely confidence boost for the team.
Ndidi has now featured in all 16 Premier League matches this season, contributing four assists while continuing to be one of Leicester’s most influential players in midfield.
