How Cameroon Qualified for WAFCON 2026 Despite Not Originally Qualifying

CAF expanded the tournament from 12 to 16 teams and reinstated Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Mali and Egypt based on FIFA rankings. Against all odds, Cameroon have now reached the final.

The Indomitable Lionesses booked their place in the 2026 WAFCON final after defeating hosts Morocco 3–1 on penalties, following a goalless 120 minutes of football, just days after eliminating Nigeria.

Softfootball gathered that it was a heroic performance inspired by goalkeeper Michaely Bihina, who produced four crucial penalty saves:

  • One during extra time
  • Three more in the shootout

Her outstanding saves, quick reactions and commanding presence once again proved decisive for Cameroon, cementing her status as one of the tournament’s standout performers.
