Former Southampton defender Jose Fonte believes Chelsea made a huge mistake by failing to sign Victor Osimhen, with Softfootball reporting the Portuguese defender compared the Nigerian striker to Blues legend Didier Drogba.
Chelsea were heavily linked with Osimhen during the summer transfer window but failed to complete a deal before the striker eventually joined Galatasaray on loan from Napoli.
Fonte believes Osimhen possesses all the qualities needed to succeed in the Premier League, highlighting his pace, strength, aggression and ability to dominate defenders.
The former Portugal international star also recalled facing Victor Osimhen in the UEFA Champions League, admitting the Nigerian forward was among the most difficult opponents he encountered despite their friendly relationship.
Jose Fonte remains convinced Osimhen would thrive in England and believes Chelsea missed the chance to secure one of Europe’s most complete centre-forwards before rival clubs inevitably renew their interest.
