Favour Omenazu has received her maiden invitation to the Nigeria senior women’s national team as the Super Falcons continue preparations for their 2028 Olympic Games qualifying tie against Comoros.

The 24-year-old midfielder captains Milton Keynes Dons in England’s FA Women’s National League and has now been rewarded with an opportunity to represent Nigeria at senior international level.

Nigeria will host Comoros in the first leg on October 9 before the two teams meet again on October 13, with both matches forming part of the qualification pathway to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

The midfielder’s invitation comes at a time when the Super Falcons are dealing with several notable absences.

Experienced forward Asisat Oshoala has requested to be excused from the fixtures, while defender Ashleigh Plumptre remains sidelined after suffering a sprain and ligament injury.

The SL Benfica duo of Oluwatosin Demehin and Flourish Sabastine will also miss the qualifiers as they continue the process of securing their residence permits in Portugal.

With a number of established players unavailable, Omenazu now has an opportunity to make an impression in the Super Falcons setup and stake her claim for a place in the national team.

The midfielder will be hoping to take advantage of her first call-up as Nigeria seeks to secure qualification for the next stage of the Olympic qualifying campaign against Comoros.
