Softfootball understands that Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen has once again become the centre of online debate following the Super Eagles’ historic 4–0 victory over Mozambique, a result that came after their 3–1 win against Uganda in the group stage of AFCON 2026.

Despite the emphatic scoreline, emotions flared during the Mozambique match after a video shared by EL Gran’ Osvaldo (@Vizzy_rayven) on X showed Osimhen visibly shouting at teammate Ademola Lookman for not passing the ball to him.

It’s a team game, but you’re shoving your captain aside like that and yelling at a team mate to the point where players on the opposing team looked to intervene, lol clown. He no go get better club to sign am with this attitude. No be swear. This is really disappointing to see.

Meanwhile, Gift Boma Hart (@wariboma) used the moment to stress the importance of teamwork over personal milestones. His reaction acknowledged Osimhen’s hunger for goals but argued that collective success should always come first.

He posted:

Thank God we all heard “it’s team game”. It shows a lot of what the game is, TEAM. Pass the ball to your teammates fgs. Guy is chasing a hat trick Guy is chasing to break Yekeni’s goals record. Just pass the ball and enjoy your game. Simple

On the other side of the debate, Deiyveed Mide (@olumidedeiyveed) defended Osimhen’s competitive mindset, questioning the logic behind denying a striker the ball simply because he had already scored twice. His reaction highlighted concerns about consistency and decision-making in crucial moments.

He wrote:

All of you supporting Ademola, when it happens in a crucial moment that we need goals, I hope it’ll still be the same sha. Not supporting osi but wtf does you got 2 mean? Cus he has 2 means he should not get the ball anymore or stop playing?

Another fan, PATRI (@Chindudiy), took a more critical tone, interpreting Osimhen’s actions as immature and driven purely by personal ambition rather than team success.

He reacted:

He really messed up….all becos he wants to score an hat trick…. sincerely he really acted like a child

Adding another layer to the discussion, Oladotun Afolabi (@lammiesky) shifted focus to other attackers on the pitch, particularly those yet to score at the tournament. His post criticised Osimhen for ignoring teammates who were also chasing important personal milestones.

He wrote:

Yes he scored 2 already and Akor was looking and hoping for his 1st AFCON goal. Did Osimhen care/ Instead he wanted a hattrick when fellow striker was yet to get one. Shouting at someone who already assisted the 2 goals you scored. Madness

The incident has since continued to fuel conversations online, highlighting the fine balance between elite strikers’ hunger for goals and the importance of unity within a successful Super Eagles team.
