Two Falconets stars have earned individual recognition following Nigeria’s run at the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia.
Flourish Sabastine and Chiamaka Okwuchukwu have both been nominated for the 2024 CAF Women’s Young Player of the Year award.
Softfootball’s checks show the pair face stiff competition from across the continent, going up against Cameroon’s Cathy Biya and Naomi Eto, Egypt’s Habiba Sabry, Ghana’s Stella Nyamekye, Kenya’s Valerie Nekesa, Morocco’s Doha El Madani and Lina Mokhtar Jamai, and South Africa’s Nthabiseng Majiya — a list that spans nearly every corner of African women’s football.
As with the other CAF categories, the winner will be chosen by a voting panel made up of the CAF Technical Committee, media professionals, and national team head coaches and captains. The award covers performances between January and October 2024.
Both players will find out their fate at the CAF Awards ceremony in Marrakech, Morocco, on December 16 — a night that could add another individual honor to what’s already been a breakout year for Nigerian women’s football at youth level.
