Everton have reportedly joined the race for Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi as they look to add more firepower to their squad.

The Nigeria international has found regular playing time difficult to secure this season, with Chris Wood currently ahead of him in Nuno Espirito Santo’s attacking plans.

Despite his limited opportunities, Awoniyi has reportedly indicated that he would prefer to remain at Forest and fight for his place in the team.

Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo has also backed the striker to play an important role during the remainder of the campaign, suggesting that the 27-year-old remains part of his plans.

However, Everton are said to be considering a late approach for the former Union Berlin forward as they search for attacking reinforcements.

Awoniyi is reportedly among several players on the Toffees’ shortlist, with the club said to have around £33.5 million available to strengthen the squad with two new signings.

The striker has made 20 Premier League appearances for Forest this season, scoring once.
