Espanyol Aim to End Season Strongly Against Struggling Real Sociedad

Espanyol head into the final round of La Liga fixtures looking to make it three consecutive victories after rediscovering momentum late in the campaign. Manolo Gonzalez’s side currently sit 11th in the table with 45 points from 37 matches, and another victory could lift them into the top 10 by the end of the weekend.

The Catalan side endured a difficult spell earlier in the season, going 16 matches without a win and seeing any realistic hopes of European qualification disappear. However, recent performances have brought renewed confidence, especially after their dramatic response following Sevilla’s comeback 2-1 victory over Espanyol earlier in the month.

Espanyol bounced back impressively with victories over Osasuna and Mallorca, including a spirited 2-1 success away at Osasuna last time out. Carlos Romero opened the scoring before Kike netted the decisive goal in the second half to secure all three points.

The hosts have been far more reliable at the RCDE Stadium this season, where seven league victories have helped them remain comfortably clear of relegation trouble. Espanyol also shared a motivational message through the club’s official x handle ahead of the finale, urging the players to give everything “for the last one of the season.”

While Inter Milan prepare for their Serie A finale against Bologna hoping to end the 2025-26 campaign with one final statement victory, Real Sociedad, meanwhile, arrive in disappointing form despite already securing Europa League football thanks to their Copa del Rey triumph. Pellegrino Matarazzo’s side are winless in their last seven La Liga matches and suffered a painful 4-3 defeat against Valencia in their previous outing after conceding a dramatic 93rd-minute winner.

The Basque side have also struggled away from home throughout the season, managing only three wins in 18 league games on their travels. However, Sociedad remain unbeaten in their last five meetings with Espanyol and will hope to finish their campaign with a positive result.
