Dumfries, 29, wanted by Manchester City and Aston Villa

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City and Unai Emery’s Aston Villa are two of the clubs that has made enquires about Dutch right back, Denzel Dumfries. Softfootall was told that the 2 PL clubs are not the only ones interested in the Inter Milan right back as Barcelona have also made contacts.

The Netherlands international bagged the highest numbers of his career in the 2024/25 season, producing 11 goals and 9 assists in 47 appearances across all competitions. The Playoff reports that says Dumfries is potentially available at a bargain price until July 31.

His current contract with Inter runs until June 2028 and also has a release clause of €25 million (£21 million), which has attracted the interest of several top European clubs. However, the mentioned clause expires at the end of July, after which Inter will be free to demand a higher fee for the right-back.

Inter might have finished the season without a title but Dumfries’ attacking qualities could never have gone unseen. With the tension that brewed in the team after their exit from the Club World Cup, it is believed Dumfries will use the exits after he took sides with Hakan Calhanoglu against team captain Lautaro Martinez.

City are looking for a proper right back as they have been without one since Kyle Walker fell out of love and got eventually transferred to Burnley permanently this summer. Matheus Nunes and Rico Lewis have been the two players switching in the position.

Unai Emery’s side, Aston Villa are also said to be weighing up a move as they are keen to bolster their squad and view Dumfries’ experience and versatility as an ideal fit while Barcelona are also interested but the Catalans are reportedly less aggressive in their pursuit due to their financial constraints.

Italian Journalist, Nicolo Schira wrote that Villa are interested in the player. He posted on his verified X account that:

Despite the rumors, Denzel Dumfries has not chosen his new agent yet. His father Boris and his broher Donovan are currently rappresent him.

“Jorge Mendes is just an intermediary for Barça; while AstonVilla have shown interest in Inter’s dutch right back, who has a release clause of €25M (valid until July 31)

€25M is not so much of a big cash for City who have spent €145m already this summer with the arrivals of 5 new players to their squad. Villa might consider their options well as they still have Matty Cash for their right back position.

Softfootball will be monitoring and reporting the situation of  Dumfries and where he finally picks as his new club.
